Today, you can often hear various incomprehensible at first glance phrases, such as”synchrophasotron”, “response generator”, “chemicalsynthesis”. This list is endless. For example, what is chemical synthesis?To put it simply, custom small molecule synthesis is the process of building orcreating complex molecules from simpler ones, as well as obtaining chemicalcompounds by physical and chemical methods.

Thereare two types of synthesis, which are determined depending on the nature of theproduct – it is organic and inorganic synthesis.

Note: in organic synthesis, the end
result of a chemical reaction may be a simpler substance than its original
compound.

For
the first time in chemistry, the word “synthesis” was used by the
Roman alchemist Galatian. For the first time, the Russian chemist Nikolai
Nikolayevich Zinin proved the possibility of synthesizing organic substances
that are outside of a living organism.

Do
not confuse the terms “artificial” and “synthetic”. For
example, synthetic fibers are nylon, Capron, etc., artificial fibers are
asbestos, viscose fibers, etc. Artificial leather is a material that has the
appearance or properties of tanned animal skin. Synthetic leather is a
laboratory-grown film that is similar to leather.

  • The
    development of organic synthesis is the possibility of obtaining a variety of
    active substances, which are used in such areas as agriculture, medicine,
    perfumery, food industry, etc.
  • The
    improvement of synthetic methods made it possible to obtain many of the
    necessary chemicals on an industrial scale. In organic chemistry, this can be
    the synthesis of ammonia, soda, sulfuric and nitric acid, as well as other
    compounds.
  • Recently,
    the production of fine chemicals and organic substances, which can be used in
    various fields of the chemical industry, has been launched.
  • Of
    great importance is the chemical synthesis of proteins and polypeptides. For
    example, many of the necessary protein hormones is vasopressin and insulin,
    today are obtained synthetically.
  • The
    peptides of the brain peptide group, which can have the same effect on the
    brain as morphine, have practical application, but these drugs are not
    addictive.
  • Synthetic
    chemistry is opposed to extraction: it makes it possible to reproduce a
    “made-to-measure” odor from natural or artificial compounds.
  • It
    took off with the development of organic chemistry when, in 1854, Sir William
    Henry Perkin, a British chemist, discovered the aniline derivatives that gave
    rise to the first dyes, including the feinting.
  • Around
    1870, a chemical appears that will mark the perfume industry: it is coumarone,
    with the smell of cut grass.

Since
about 1400, the perfumer had a hundred essences. But the blends were mostly
perfumes with a smell of rose or violet. With alcoholic perfumery, as early as
1880, new products arrived on the market.

Perfumery
enjoys a burst of creativity and we see appearing perfumes that blend natural
products, classic essences and chemicals.
